It doesn't matter if there's oxygen in the can or not. The oxygen is what allows a fire to burn, but that doesnt mean something won't catch fire or explode. The contents of the can are flammable, and all that is required for the can to become a live grenade is a tiny spark escaping into the highly pressurized canister of a flammable substance, like in this video.
