September 2005
Six years after the Indonesian army unleashed its militia killers on East Timor, its leaders seem immune from prosecution. They know they will never face an international court.
Although low ranking militia members have been imprisoned, only two ringleaders have been convicted. They are both now free. "If there's an international tribunal pro integrationists will be more militant," states army leader Meko Soares. Faced with this implicit threat, there's no political will to indict the ringleaders.

well which one more evil, taking aboriginese and place them to whites family and destroying their culture in the process and the people gives them beer so they get drunk and lazy or placing them to school and remind them to keep their heritage intact?? btw your goverment is the representative of your people right?? i don;t hate Australian people nor their government as they also play a huge part on Indonesian own independence. but people are not perfect so before pointing other look inside.

Wyunaboy, you are right. Succesive Australian Governments have betrayed the people of East Timor over and over again. The Australian people, however, strongly support the Timorese and played a big part in securing the indepenence vote in the first place, just as they have forced governments into greater recognition and support for Aboriginies. Indonesia has a far more brutal and tyrannic history. Millions of people have died under the evil TNI over 40 years. The two countries are incomparable.
