  • Sorry, we ALL know this old one, and I found it painfully SLOW. If only the band had took notice of the percussion! He took them off at a good tempo, but the band came along at a saunter - around 104bpm much of the time, or less!

  • Very constructive comments. Thankyou.

We still won the march prize though and Alan Fernie thought it was the best march that he had heard that day!

PS. Watch his leg tap the whole way through the Sop solo second time.

  • I love this march. We always finish off a concert with it, and I always play the horn que on the euph part high up the octave (video 0.49 ). It has tremendous energy, very well performed!

  • I love this march. And think it was played at just about the right tempo!!!!

  • @TerrBerrUK soprano part only starts were he started so no he wouldn't loose parts for that

  • @drsambooth I have heard that it is also the official fight song of Eastern Washington University located in rural Spokane.

  • This is very well played.

The New Colonial is a tough march to play. I know because my band plays it.

I play for "The Bawn Silver Band". Please, watch some of our videos and coment.

    Thanks!!!!

  • brilliant! i play euphonium and i think he did really well...and that sop solo is more background than solo...

  • I could only guess that some marks would be lost, but that end part for the Sop. would be difficult after playing the first sections. Great that they won!

  • I don't know. If the score was written with sop throughout and he only played at the end, then maybe? I'm no adjudicator so i don't know how it works. Even if they did lose points for it, they still won the march competition that day. Up the 'duff!

  • wouldnt they lose marks for that though?

  • He was saving himself for solos at the end. He played flat out for the last 2 mins of the song.

  • Throughout the land, our banner waving overhead!!!

  • never have i seen a Sop. player play so little in a piece! especially a march! :) nice performance
