The two existing mainstream technologies for smartphone displays are LCD and OLED. Their advanced iterations in those gizmos are IPS-LCD, as found in Apple's iPhone 4, and Super AMOLED, as present in the Samsung Galaxy S. Therefore we compare the two flagship smartphones displaywise, trying to pierce through the marketing fluff...

  • @smallville0forever Lol "eye lenses can't analyze more than 60 FPS." It's your brain that processes the information your eyes are seeing....not your eyes -____-

  • @smallville0forever I can tell you with certainty that there is a noticeable difference in motion fluidity between a 60Hz display and a 120Hz display. I own two nearly identical TV's from LG, the main difference being one is 60Hz and the other refreshes at 120Hz - and the 120Hz has much smoother motion. The fact that the human eye can't see the difference above 60 FPS is a common misconception.

    I know the conversation was about response time, but I figured I'd throw that out there.

  • @MadeInMinecraft And that's not even the full story, because the response times they post are true only for some of the cases like just black to grey, grey to black, white to grey, grey to grey etc.

    The refresh frequency (60Hz, 120Hz) doesn't matter at all on LCD's because the image is not drawn with a single point like it is on CRT's.

  • @smallville0forever Look, there is a difference between Hz and response time, eyes can vary from each other but for the most part should you see the difference between 60 and 120 hz on a monitor that supports it. And second of all the difference between 2ms and 5 ms is really small but a few people would see the difference if you put the monitors head to head but it´s so minimal that it should´nt matter in a every day use.

  • @MadeInMinecraft you wont find a difference between 120hz and 60 hz because your eyes lenses cant analyze more than 60 FPS so set vertical sync on second if you could see ghosting from 2ms to 5-6 ms its impossible i was using 120 HZ VG236H 2ms and moved to 5 ms ips monitor i cant see any ghosting or lag in the fast motion games .

    if you will go with something exciting look for resolution and colors accuracy first .

  • @Vziera Depends on your task, TN is best for gaming because it has a very fast response time and can be 120hz but other vise it's really bad xP

  • And I wonder why my silly dell TN monitor can produce a perfect black on the samsung all of a sudden??!! Aren't TNs the worst performing LCD on the market?

  • OLED advantage is you can make it super thin, no back light and even flexible. Disadvantage - short lifespan.
