@pcbheaven sorry, I didn't see it :) I think lots of my questions would find the responses on it. Google chrome usualy hyde the bottom of the the information under the video, for that I didn't see it.
Sorry and Thank you very much.

@4002inch as a matter of fact, i have complete documentation about this project. follow the link in the info under the video, after the phrase "Link to page:..."

This is really cool :). I was thinking of using an Arduino as the controller, as I found a how-to for a thermocouple sensor and the Arduino on ladyada, but wasn't sure about the soldering iron itself. I see that Hakko has replacement parts available, and they have a heating element with 4 wires for the FX-8801. I'm assuming the 2 extra leads are the thermocouples?

@iamspuzzum herctrap has already make this with avr (programmed thorugh arduino). go to my site in projects and find it in first rows.

Does this use a PID algorithm to maintain the temperature ?
Spoif 1 month ago
@Spoif no. i began with PID but the system has slow reaction with fast temperature drops (when soldering), so the PID had no real use. I used patterns instead.

Looks good.. can you get a faster recovery time for the heater though?
Tda7000 10 months ago
@Tda7000 the soldering iron i selected is 30Wats max, so it has by itself a long recovery time. If i was to re-make this project, i would select a bigger one.
