This is the famous iron pillar in the precincts of the Quwwat ul Islam mosque. Its history is too well recounted to be repeated here. The mosque is in the precincts of the Qutab Minar, it is perhaps the only place which the ASI agrees has been built using the remains of 27 Hindu and Jain temples, if it could have been done here, then it coud have been done eleswhere too, certainly at the Babri site, which is exactly what the recent judgement says. Look closely at the Hindu figurines in the pillars, however the Hindus should not get excited as whatever has happened is history, it is in the past.
