And another thing is that politicians won't have as much to manipulate with. They could not say "because the gods said so" like in many Ancient and Medeval European kingdoms. Politically motivated people use dogmas to influence the masses.

Secularism actually ensures religious freedom, instead of "prohibiting" it as some fundamentalists argue.

Secularism in the modern times-- when nations are actually hosts of multiple faiths, and when the ideas behind these faiths circulate openly and freely because of growing interconnectedness -- grant religious groups equality. Without it, a sec will gain prominence politically just because of having more members, which quite obviously infringes the rights of other groups and non-believers.
