G528 was sent light engine on the Ararat Maryborough line to pick up 21 grain wagons that have been in storage for near on 2 years. The track has not been looked after and you can hear the rails and sleepers groaning as it passes the old loco depo
History repeats. A similar bush-bashing exercise occurred on this line when it was being reopened in 1966.
Sounds as if it might have been lucky the loco didn't end up in the dirt. Was anything done prior to the excursion to ensure that wouldn't happen? A missing level crossing sign clearly wasn't replaced.
@fernald10 I think the line was checked to make sure that it was safe to run out to the wagons. at every level crossing there was a bloke from PN making sure that no drivers would go through the level crossing. The one without a sign is an abandoned farm crossing and was heavily over grown
