While ladyfish teeth aren't as nasty as bluefish, I have had them to rip the nylon clean off of new jigs leaving nothing but the hook and lead head. Also had them to break and straighten hooks also. You can definitely tell when you've hooked a ladyfish. Their's is a unique fight, sometmes with skyrocket jumps.

I'm going to Seaside/Destin this summer and was considering surf fishing for the first time. I want to just have fun and not worry too much with catching big stuff to eat. Should I get a long surf rod, or just take a 7' rod? I'd like to be able to work a spinner so I can fight with a ladyfish, but will I have to wade out far for that? I've seen several sharks in the shallows down there, so I don't want to have to wade out too far. Thoughts?

Me and my dada were fishing on our boat in the surf in Madagorta Tx and he hooked a 36in ladyfish.
It was taking out line like a game fish!!
