NORVELL JEFFERSON, a Belgian audiovisual production company, is awarded with two GOLD medals for the short film 'From Molecule to Medicine' at the New York Festivals' International Film & Video Awards 2008. The film is selected as 'World's best work 2007' in two categories: 'Health/Medical Issues' and 'Health Care Professional Education'. The 6 minute film explains the various stages for a pharmaceutical company to develop new medical cures. With state-of-the-art 3D animations and beautifully shot High Definition images the film unravels the secrets of how our body works. It clearly shows what processes occur in conditions of sickness and how scientists use their knowledge to discover new, innovative drugs to help patients worldwide.

  • However from another side it s better to make publically funded organizations and clinical research which can enable making pulbically funded cheap drugs.

  • Drug development is mostly don by companies. University work only in the eraly stage. Drug development is really very expensive. I think there is no other way than extend the patent protection lifetime. I don't understand why it's not done yet. It can be at least 4-5 years more which will give much more money for R&D. The best technolgies in this field go from big pharma. Main goal of universities is to make drug candidates good enough that big pharma can buy and develop them.

  • i think if they reduced the marketing budget, they would have a lot more money to put into research.

Advertising is very expensive, and in my country it's actually illegal to advertise prescription drugs to the public. So most of the marketing budget goes to wining & dining doctors - to encourage them to prescribe your company's drugs more.

It's still a lot of money that could be better spent researching new drugs.

  • Both of them, Universities guide Companies how to Drug.

  • is drug development mainly done by Drug Companies, or Universities?

  • Amazing ...make me understand drug development.

  • Great informational production. Thanks !
