In this edition of Peter Lavelle's CrossTalk, he asks his guests what is at the heart of the burqa issue - women's rights or (in)tolerance?

  • @mssmartmeat no one was "made" to cover anything it's a choice so when will everyone stop trying to impose their personal perspective of things on other people it's totally immature

  • I think that it should be understood, that in the west we were brought up on TV shows where villains or bandits always covered their faces. Is it any wonder that we equate a covered face with criminal intent. Even today, rebels, or criminals of all types, cover their faces because they don't want to be recognized. It is a cultural issue, not religious.

  • @Msqfocus restrict? It gives women the freedom to express their views without being judged by their looks. And if you say they can do that anyways that is a lie. Women that have voices are not judged by their brains but also their looks.

  • It was just today I was in a lecture where it was discussed that women are judged by their appearance and not their brains. It was also said that this issue was brought up in Parliament. Well the burqa/hijab is a way that overcomes that problem that so many women in today's society face. Where they are judged by their outward appearance and not their intellect.

  • @DianaAyana may allah give you best reward!!

  • This is great!

  • @DianaAyana

go ahead and wear it. the hijab or niqab is not a Muslim invention and as you know being a Christian, the blessed Virgin Mother Mary covered her head out of respect for her God and for herself. salaam

  • Mona kicks ass!

  • if i want to wear the hijab or niqab...why would you not let me do it??? my family is christian, and for sure they don't want me to wear hijab, so they force me to not put it, but I WANT TO WEAR IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....is my choise, i want to do it...i loveeeeeee it...i look cute with it and i feel comfortable...and most of all...it is what i believe in, why you want me to change my thoughts and my believes???

  • @StayHuman2011 Because that is not the accepted hadith. That was proven when the Ayatolla Kohmeini came into power in Iran and changed the age of consent to 9 to abide by the prophet's example. If Islamists agreed that she was 18 there would be no problem. It is not the "haters" it is the IMAMs who insist on this hadith. Put the blame where it belongs.

  • @Joebob01010 No honour killings are not part of the religion. It is purely cultural. If you look at countries that practice HK it includes the Christan,Muslim and tribal religions of that country=CULTURAL.Nothing to do with Islam.

He was NOT a pedaphile. The information comes from a hadith.Interesting thing is there are several Hadiths indicating she could have been: 15,16,18 & 9. Interesting that the haters always go for the last hadith. Why not use the hadith that indicates she was 18,16 or 15?
