We have always loved steel frames, but steel 29-ers have always been hard to find, kinda crappy, over $2000, or too dang heavy. At $1150, Jamis is right on the mark! Great geometry, excellent parts, trail ready. We'll let Jon do the talking...
This is alot more bike for the money, then the competition for the steel frame 29er segment will offer you. Namely Kona and Surly which both come as single speeds with lesser components and lower grade 4130 steel vs Reynolds 520. only advantage the surly has in my opinion is fender mounts, which can be brazed on anyway.. I did my shopping. This is the best value in the segment. I have put on just over 2500 miles with no problems.
I have been looking at the Jamis Bikes lately and they're the best bang for the buck. The Dragon series bikes have a really comfortable ride quality vs aluminum bikes such as the Exile 2. I'm getting back into bicycles after 15 years, and I must say that the construction of the Dragon 29ers are awesome. This is the bike to buy if you can find one!

Great review, really appreciate it. Any comments on the size and weight of this one? That would be cool. Thanks.
