me so hungry - how to make laarp. Also spelled as lop, lap, larp. This recipe is catered to American taste buds. Laos people generally put Ba Dak in it, with galangal and chicken skin. Laarp is similar to ceviche or tartare. It is make with chopped up or ground meat and mixed with lime, herbs, and seasoning. Many times laarp, ceviche's, or tartare's are raw, but there are also cooked ones such as chicken laarp. This dish goes well with sticky rice and chicken soup. Serve with cucumbers. Laotions usually eat it with radish, cucumber, or fish mint.

  • Gonna try making this tonight. My girlfriend and I are trying to expand our culinary palette. Not sure what to serve it with though, maybe rice? Or is it a stand-alone dish?

  • @Atari26

This dish is usually served with chicken soup using the chicken scraps making broth. It goes well to because the larp is dry and the hot soup complements it. It is served with sticky rice and different sides such as cucumber, asparagus beans, radish, and/or fish mint. You would probably like it with cucumber, most ppl don't like radish or fish mint. Fish mint is considered stinky like fish, but Asians love it.

  • Hi, Good job on the video. I usually take the chicken when it is halfway thawed and cut it up into tiny cube size. Then I put some water in a frying pan and cook up the chicken meat. I find this way is better because it is #1 quicker #2 the chicken remain moist. The meat tend to dry up when I cook it in the oven and it takes longer to cook that way.

thanks for the tip, I'll have to try it that way. usually my mom would either bake or boil it, but she uses "old chicken," the meat is tougher and less likely to dry out. With chicken bones, she makes gaeng gai, chicken soup. If the chicken gets dry, she'll put the some broth on the laap and stir

  • Hahah awesome!

In Laos, they can make Lahp with any kinds of animals beyond chicken, beef, pork, or fish...etc

Serve with Beer Lao that's how they like it here.
