The International Airport of Kerkyra (Corfu) IOANNIS KAPODISTRIAS" is one of the largest of the country with considerable traffic in sping and summer time because of the adequate activity of the island. Kerkyra is on of the most famous destinations in Greece for domestic and international tourists.
History of the airport
The history of Corfu International airport begins with the landing of plane Heston Phoenix (shipping register SXAAH) on 22 March 1937, with Efstratio Xidi as HCAA governor. At the duration of second world war, it was used by planes of axis "where they found shelter after martial enterprises.His corridor today reaches 2.400 metres, width 45 metres. A small building of passenger station was built 1962. In April 1965 the airport became International and the first flight under Air Traffic Control was realised with jet type Comet of OAL. The manufacture of new passenger station was finished In 1972.

Το διεθνές αεροδρόμιο της Κέρκυρας "ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣ ΚΑΠΟΔΙΣΤΡΙΑΣ" είναι ένα από τα μεγαλύτερα αεροδρόμια της χώρας, με μια αξιοσημείωτη επιβατική κίνηση την άνοιξη και το καλοκαίρι λόγω της μεγάλης τουριστικής δραστηριότητας του νησιού. Η Κέρκυρα είναι ένας από τους δημοφιλέστερους προορισμούς για τον εγχώριο αλλά και το διεθνή τουρισμό.

Ιστορία
Η ιστορία του αεροδρομίου της Κέρκυρας ξεκινάει με την προσγείωση ενός αεροσκάφους Heston Phoenix (νηολόγιο SXAAH) στις 22 Μαρτίου 1937, με κυβερνήτη τον Ευστράτιο Ξύδη. Κατά τη διάρκεια του Β Παγκοσμίου πολέμου χρησιμοποιήθηκε από αεροσκάφη του άξονα» όπου εύρισκαν καταφύγιο μετά από πολεμικές επιχειρήσεις. Ο διάδρομός του σήμερα φθάνει 2.400 μέτρα, πλάτος 45 μέτρα. Ένα μικρό κτίριο επιβατικού σταθμού κτίσθηκε το 1962. Τον Απρίλιο του 1965 το αεροδρόμιο έγινε Διεθνές και η πρώτη πτήση κάτω από Έλεγχο Εναέριας Κυκλοφορίας πραγματοποιήθηκε με jet τύπου Comet της Ο.Α. Το 1972 τελείωσε η κατασκευή του νέου επιβατικού σταθμού.
