I have the 1818VSL and carry a 22 with me wherever I go. I highly recommend whichever one is in your budget.

Well Guys, I have great news.I just received a new mail from Colin Beyer (presonus support). He assured me that either if I plug a mic in an on board vsl input, or plug it in a D8 input and pass it to the vsl via ADAT the latency will be the same.Of course he insisted that there should be a wordclock connection between the two devices through (BNC connect). That's wonderful since that means that the combination of the 1818 and the D8 results in 16 ch of inaudible latency! Well Done Presonus!

inaudible. The issue here is what happens when the 1818 is combined with the D8 to get a total of 16 channels simultaneously. Would it still remain inaudible? This has been the matter here since the begining of this post.Anyway, still the 1818 seems to be a nice interface. But personaly I am living for the day that a 16ch interface will replace my mixing board in a live gig.The good thing is that good companies (such as presonus, steinberg etc) turn that way lately. So, patience...

This is what Colin said:
"Hi,
There will always be a small amount of latency while digitally recording to a computer; but we're talking about milliseconds here.
The amount of latency you can achieve with the AudioBox VSL units will be inaudible to the human ear "
Well that didn't quite answer my question.Of course we are talking about msecs here, it is always a matter of msecs when it comes to latency issues. And of course it is already understood that vsl latency is (...next post)

@presonusaudio Well I got response from Colin. He replied really fast I have to admit. We exchanged a couple of mails because I persisted asking him to estimate the latency rates when Vsl interface is combined with D8. His final response was very diplomatic I would say: (See my next post)

@presonusaudio Thanks a lot for your quick responce. I have already forwarded my question to Colin Beyer at Presonus Tech Support team. I will post his reply here as well as soon as he responds. :-)
@presonusaudio Will there be any monitoring latency issues for a live PA setup when combined with Digimax D8 (as suggested for adding 8 more inputs) - due to s/pdif interconnection? Have you tested that on VSL 1818? It's a really, really major issue!!!As far as I can see there are many people who want to use this interface in a typical live PA setup, That means that only the Drumset will need to occupy 8 channels by itself. It would be great if you responded with numbers (msec). Thank you, Val.

@musictracer Hey musictracer! That's an advanced question better left to our tech support team or community forum, both of whom can be contacted via the PreSonus website. Best to you!

@elime173 Funny you should bring that up. I suggest you tune in to our NAMM coverage, Jan 19-22... :)
