@cymrufem1 Thank you so much for your info. poor XX, because of his death, what did woolong do to not make same mistake? Which he is still alive, he was cute and so lovely.
-
@ethystethyst Why he refused to have him back? Yes I agree w/ cymrufem1 that the guy got XX's blood in his hands.

manji, sorry but no xx did not die in the Sichuan province quake May 2008. He died likely at the end of 2006, some 8 months after he had been set loose in the wild. This was a tragic misake. XX was injured multiple times, yet for God only knows what reason (pride??) he was set back into the wild each and every time. This incredible dear panda tragically paid the price for the mistakes of the program in which he was a part (no choice on his part). Xiang is a true hero.

A local Chinese panda fan told me that the big boss at Wolong, Mr. Zhang He-Min, refused to take XX back when the panda found his way back to the gate of the center, his native "home" and begged for mercy. Poor animals...
I think that maybe Xiang Xiang would have been ok if he could have found an area in the forest he could call his own. From the articles I read, they noticed that he traveled very far and was thought to be chased away by other wild panda's protecting their territory. If he could have found a spot to call home he would have been happy laying around eating his bamboo, sleeping and being a happy panda

I agree, protection and conservation of the panda's habitat is the way to go unless the captive bred panda's can be released in some sort of safe protected area free of other wild panda's until they can adapt. I don't think Xiang Xiang was prepared to face the wild, he was to close to human contact and from his pictures he looked like a very lovable friendly panda.

I was sad when I heard of his death too. I couldn't find much on him so I thought I'd make a video to remember him by. Captive panda's are great and cute to watch but it's important to protect the panda's habitat and increase the population of the wild panda's for future generations. Xiang Xiang sure was a cute panda.
