Roomba 530 Lounge Part 01

Part 01 of 04. The full unadulterated 35 minutes of video of the Roomba #530 cleaning the lounge. The total cleaning time, (as the video shows) was just over 1 hour. Lucky for you :-D I only captured about 35 minutes of it.

I hear you asking.. pleading.. "WHY did you make a looong boooring 35m video of the Roomba doing it's thing.." Well.. it's like this. When I was pre-shopping my Roomba purchase I scoured the intarwebs looking for all I could find about Roomba. Like most pre-Roomba owners I was skeptical at first that a mechanical pizza could really clean my floors. I wanted proof. And more than the promotional videos on the iRobot site. I wanted REAL WORLD video of Roomba being Roomba in real peoples homes.

I did find some handy videos on YouTube that showed small snippits of Roomba doing it's thing. These were helpful no doubt. But I wanted more. I wanted to just see someone put Roomba down in the middle of a room, press CLEAN and see what it does... the whole thing... Now would anyone just casually browsing a web-video site sit and watch this ? NO WAY, not unless thier life is even sadder than mine. The reason I stuck together 35 minutes of Roomba cleaning is for for other people like me researching and wondering about Roomba and wanting to see for themselves.

There is an 8x fast-motion version available of this 35m video, that's only 5 minutes in running time. You can find it with the rest of my videos here on YouTube. It's just this video, sped-up so it's not pleasant to watch in places, but like Roomba, it gets the job done.

(Q) Why only 35 minutes when it took an hour to clean. Why did you leave so much out ?
(A) Well the 2GB SD in the video camera only hold about 18m of video before getting FULL. Then it took another 5-6 minutes to transfer than off card into computer. And also, Roomba really IS repetitive. Some would call it inefficiency, others would say thorough. I lean towards thorough.

I plan to make other real-world Roomba videos but I think only fast-motion ones, with a lock-off fixed camera, that will be nicer to watch and show what Roomba can do. I may include real-time versions of those. You'll just have to wait and see :-)
