Well, the target is 40% by 2015 if my memory serves me well. And I think we are at 37-39% or so by now, but I'm not certain. Last official number was 34.5% I think, and that was a couple of years ago.
Not absolutely sure if it's the right mindset, but it sure makes driving a car less crowded with so many bicycles. :)
And the funny thing is, people complain about their job while getting paid a wonderful salary to get through the month, in a nice car, with a nice house/apartment. While there are starving families in other countries just dying to get a job and earn money for the family. Even with the job, its barely enough to feed the family and survive. Oh yeah, walking around in best buy for $10 hourly helping people in a nice and air conditioned(and heated in winter) building sucks ass.......yyyyup......
Its absulotely sad to see people going like 20 MILES?!?! When i say i bike to work. Fuck, its absolutely embarrising to live with this generation of people. For christ sake, back then, people had no cars, they WALKED, or actually did something to get to work. I told my friend to go to target to get cups for the party while i get the car from the car repair place (target was ONLY 5 BLOCKS AWAY, I HAD TO WALK 20) and he was like "WHAT?! dude hell no, just get it while your in the car" UNBELIEVABLE
female newscasters keep looking more and more like models and i keep seeing less and less male newscasters is this a combo of the quota system meets sex sells? lol
The good thing about this is that most drivers are either to scared, to proud or dont know how to make a system that will work for them. If these obstacles are ever over come the cycling to work craze will saturated as the roads as the cars do today.
@Servo888 If you figure he is spending about $50 a month for a gym membership, and $75-$100 for storage, he is still saving a substantial amount of money (considering he WAS spending over $300 a month, per the video, before he took up bike riding!). I will be happy to pocket $150 to $175 in savings any time!
Also consider this: he has lost weight, healthier than ever. He will save on future costs to the doctor, medicine because of his healthy lifestyle!

fourty miles on a rode bike? Ha, 100 miles on my loaded touring bike, with 100lbs of gear, food and supplies is a different story.

Interestingly, in copenhagen (Denmark) there's also a 1 in 3 people who bicycle to work ... even in the winter.
