I'm active duty and i'm mystified why these soldiers and now a bunch of others are worked up. When you travel on business (or as the military calls it, on orders, the business picks up the fees. The excess baggage won't cost the soldiers a dime. Delta is a private company, they don't need to treat certain people differently.

I can always count on youtube to show another boob and make me laugh, laugh, laugh

Why doesn't the military just tell the soldiers that anything they want shipped back over an above the airline limit will be shipped via UPS?

"founder and CEO of Scottevest travel clothing"??? Wait what? What's that? Like it's some actual company anyone would even know about or care about? I can just make up "CEO of dumbcrap company and founder"... whatever. moron

I don't know where to begin. You don't even know the facts!

I was actually looking to buy a jacket from Scott but now that he tried to get on some high horse about the poor soldiers I think I'm gonna pass. Maybe if Delta was actually doing something wrong it would be okay, but they are just charging soldiers what they charge everybody else. Nothing wrong there. Just make your clothing and stick to what you're good at man. You're only going to alienate paying customers if you keep doing this. I already own one of his products but this just turns me off.

Delta owns the planes, and if you want to fly on them you have to pay what they ask. If you don't like it, then don't fly Delta. I don't see how putting on a uniform somehow gains you free access to anything.
-
@d1islander Why shouldn't Delta charge them? It's their airline, let them charge what they want. If another airline doesn't charge, then they can fly on that airline.
-
Actually, the government should be paying Delta. It's not Delta's fault that the government is making their soldiers fly. It costs money to fly people and goods around. Just because you have a uniform on, doesn't mean that it costs less somehow.

These soldiers are idiots.
Sure-it would have been best if Delta could have direct billed DOD for the excess charges. But Delta has a business to run and that business not transporting military equipment/firearms as free cargo.
As someone who travels often, it is an inconvenience to pay my costs up front and then submit a claim for reimbursement. But it's not that big a deal!
Soldiers--honorable for the tasks they have faced
Soldiers--fools for not using common sense in this case

Everybody calm down. We dont fly commercial flights when deploying/redeploying to a warzone. They are privately chartered flights and we pay nothing whatsoever. If you see a soldier in uniform at an airport its because he is on leave from iraq, and if he takes four bags for 15 days of leave hes an idiot. The soldiers in question were most likely flying while not on deployment leave and wearing their uniforms to attempt free baggage.
