  • Low-power analog TV stations (LPTV) are still on the air, but their signal range is very limited. I believe Canada will still have full-power analog broadcast TV for a few more years, too. Then of course there is analog cable TV, although many cable providers are slowly phasing it out as well. If you hook up analog cable to a TV like this directly (with no cable box), you will get channels 2-13 on VHF, but the higher cable channels do not use the same frequencies as the UHF broadcast channels.

  • There's no low power stations in my area, all blank.

I'm actually working on portablizing a DTV converter box. It's not that hard actually... Just remove the PSU and feed the power directly, but regulated.

  • I was amazed to see you could read that small print on there. Those are both awesome! No new TV can ever put a smile on my face like those oldies!

  • Yep, they literally don't make them like they used to. The 5" portable, don't remember if I said, was a transistor TV, whereas the 13" (which I did say), is a vacuum tube TV.

The tube TV came on fast cause it was already on earlier, I turned it off, to turn it on, on camera, so it came up quick. It usually takes MANY seconds to give a picture.

  • When I was a kid my parents had a Panasonic that is very similar to your Unisonic that was a very good unit and still works (apart from the lack of analog reception).

  • BTW, this video reminds me of how annoying the "digital TV echo" is... especially when you're in a store and they have a whole bunch of TVs playing at the same time. Due to the buffering and decoding, it is impossible to get multiple digital TVs to play exactly in synch. Or if you have an analog TV and a digital TV hooked up to the same source (even an analog source, like a VCR), the digital TV will always be slightly lagging behind the analog TV.

  • 2:30... "a full 44-minute hour"!? I know what they mean -- a half-hour TV show is typically only 22 minutes of actual programming plus commercials -- but still...

  • WOW! That's a really nice picture. 5/5

  • ive never heard of any b&w tvs breaking. they go on forever because theyre so damn simple inside. the pic quality has never been beaten, always pin sharp and crystal clear! amazing video, makes me miss my old b&w grundig :-( 5*

  • the portable tv is the best, but now isn't portable! LOL. Awesome!

  • Too bad he can't use it without a DTV converter anymore...
