I did new Zealand twice from NYC- and one trip was through Austraila which is a 3 1/2 hour flight to new Zealand alone. Its about 12-14 hours from LA or SF. The trick is to break up the trip from NY.

@AlekSensej I live in America now and I visit my family in summer. The flight to new Zealand from Los Angeles is 22 hours. It's the second longest flight just an hour short, i think, off of LA to Sydney, Australia. So going to Europe 8 hours plus the other 10 hour to get to a point where only 22 hours of flight are left and then the remaining 22 hours is 40 hours going US-EU-NZ

It takes 10 hours to get to you from America and then 12 hours to get to New Zealand.

Stay a few hours and go back.

@AlekSensej that would mean around 4 books. Plus, you do not want to have to sit in a cramped space for 40 hours. Even 8 hours is torture, in my opinion, so 40 is not just 5 times the torture but rather 125 times the torture (increases exponentially)
