Zildjian Behind the Scenes - DaveMcClain (Machine Head)

We caught with Dave McClain on tour and asked him about the new record and what he plays on the road and in the studio.

Set-up for the Mayhem tour is pretty much what I use in the studio and I used for a long time. Now of course its Z3. Using those. Using Z3 Crashes, Z3 Chinas and still my 21" Mega Bell Ride. I love that thing it's so hard to miss the bell. For HiHats I am still using New Beats on my right side and then when I was in the studio, I am going to go back and see what it is. They sent me a bunch of stuff so we were swapping some things out and I am not exactly sure what we were playing. 6" and 10" Splash and that is about my set-up. Same thing I used in the studio, same thing I have used for a long time.

The thing with the Z3s that I really dig are, I have tried out other crashes but these are great for this type of music and you get that super loud crash and a killer tone out of it. For me it's perfect it's got the perfect amount of decay on it. The Chinas are sick I am using a 19" Z3 Ultra Hammered China on my right side. It's got this great sounding garbage can lid. Quick cut off. Totally digging the Z3s a lot!

We don't have a new record out yet. It's coming out in September. We are playing a new song and this time around we are including songs from the last three records. So it's a little more difficult to get a set list because our last three records have no songs that are less 6 minutes on it. When we have 35 minutes we are really pushing it. So we are doing that and playing a new song. The only difference is that we are swapping out on main stage and coming over here for some shows and going back over there.

Next up for us in Machine Head land, would be Australia going over there for Sound Wave Revolution Festival and we are headlining the metal stage and we are exciting that Van Halen is on the main stage. We are excited to see that and we are excited to play. And for the first time since I have been in the band, we are going to South America and Sepultura is opening for us over there. It's going to be insane. Sepultura is a legit headliner over there and to have them open up is going to be insanity and then a headline run in Europe with Bring Me the Horizon, Darkest Hour and for next year a big US headline tour .
