Sean Penn was great as usual but I thought it was clear Mickey was better. Mickey's performance is really one for the ages and it was the performance of a lifetime, but with Penn I dont really feel he let himself be carried away with the character like Rourke did for his. Penn's was just skill, and he'll go on to give more good performances, but like I said Rourke's was the performance of a lifetime. Acting as good as that isnt easy and it takes alot out of you

ANY actor will tell you, it is harder to play an original character ( Randy " The Ram" ) than playing a factual character. Penn had tools and a canvas already laid for his art, Rourke had to cut the tree's. strip the bark, make the canvas, buy the paint and CREATE an entire entity . He did that, and then some. It was academy snobbery and any actor will tell you, that should have been Rourke's.
