A recording I made on October 15, 1979. "Joan Sutherland and Marilyn Horne in Concert" at Avery Fisher Hall. (A large portion of this tape was damaged beyond repair. I managed to recover this excerpt and the six remaining items on the program and I hope you enjoy it.)

Thanks a lot for this video. Sutherland was always a delightful and beautiful Hanna and it's very pleasant to see her still in her prime (though already starting her slow decline) singing it. Besides her undeniably great and inspired singing, her gestures and stage deportment are very agreeable and elegant.

@iriisblue Thankfully, I know nothing about the technical workings of opera, and can still appreciate a good performance without over analyzing things that like. To me, she was still incredible to her last performance.

@JumpStreet1983 Saw Joan in her last Widow in Dallas and the last Norma in Detroit. I didn't scream at either performance, but I clapped until my hands were numb. Glad she didn't retire in 1980.

@JumpStreet1983 Ridiculous. One of Sutherland's greatest career accomplishments was Anna Bolena, which she didn't even assume until 1984. The 1986 Lucia from Australia is one of her most lyric and commanding performances of that role. And as for fans "screaming for you," you obviously turned a deaf ear to the ovations accorded in the 87 Trovatore, 88 Norma and 89 Lucrezia.
