Bill Haley performs Rip It Up

Bill Haley and his Comets perform a storming version of his big hit "Rip It Up" on his penultimate visit to the UK in March 1979. The Comets on this tour were Steve Murray (drums), Gerry Tilley (guitar), Pete Spencer (guitar), Geoff Driscoll (sax), Jim Lebak (bass), Ray Parsons (rhythm guitar). This perfomance took place on the 15th March 1979 at the Birmingham Odeon Theatre. Three days later I would be in the audience for his show in Preston.

Hi Damian, thanks very much for this info. Absolutely great to hear from someone so closely involved with this show. It's a shame the high quality video tape disappeared with Bill's manager and all we are left with is a low quality VHS dub.

just have to write on my son's account his 8, really cant believe at his school they are learning the Beatles and Bill Haley songs in music class, he's at St Mary's in Limassol Cyprus, Im 47 and have to say when I saw Bill livein London at the Rainbow theatre he was excellent, I feel very lucky to have seen him.

The lissom matinee idol playing sax here is the one and only Geoff Driscoll . We are v proud to have him in our band. The Rocky Band comprises ex-Rocky Horror Show cast/band members - Geoff was in the original 1973 Rocky Horror production on the King's Road. He has notched up over 4,000 performances of Richard O'Brien's cult musical.

Geoff has played with other legends such as John Lennon -and all The Beatles come to that, Sam & Dave, The Drifters, The Supremes ,Average White Band, Marvin Gaye.
