So many socialists complain about the distribution of wealth. The wealth gap doesn't matter.

  • funny that peter schiff doesnt want a service economy and Thatcher destroyed coal mines and car industry... make UK a service economy based on banks

poll tax make poor pay just as much as rich even if they make no money... then they cant vote... Voting based on money? reminds me of Jim Crow laws

"Libertarians" love her but destroying Unions is definetly not libertarian... funny thing is THe Ideology of liberatianism started as an ideology where Unions control everything

    Thatcher de

  • I think that building a service economy was one of Thatcher's mistakes. Another one of them was the poll tax. What she did right was take on the unions and privatise industry. She got many things right and many things wrong but she had the right rhetoric. She was like Reagan in that way.

  • I wonder who deregulated the Britsh banks?

  • Thatcher deregulated banks. If the credit crunch was caused by deregulation then why did it not happen in the 80s rather than now?

  • @losapocosmico

You make a very fair point. In today's political climate, there really isn't much different between the left and the right. The only thing we can do is watch their actions to know who is conservative and who is liberal.

  • @ggh7664 i agree with the criticism, but i would not make the same mistake as she did in assuming liberals were necessarily left wingers. Left wingers promote egalitarianism at all costs, liberals are just non-conservative, hardly a left vs right issue.

  • long-sighted in these debates. That said, I've always admired Thatcher's stamina and passion. She was an excellent politician.

  • It's very easy to make simple correlations between events and ideologies without critically analysing their political and social contexts. Many economists now agree that deregulation was an underlying factor behind the financial crisis.Just because the symptoms didn't automatically show up in the 80s doesn't mean that deregulation played a neutral role in perpetuating the risk in the derivatives market that created the GFC, which subsequently led to the credit crunch. It's important to remain..

  • Haha Dennis Skinner "She's going to be the governor" What a bloke

  • Thatcher was brilliant...

  • Erm, there was a credit crunch in the 80s?

  • We here in the US could really use Maggie and her policies right now. Unlike too many so-called conservatives in the House and Senate, she had the guts to stand her ground and do the right thing. I also love how she speaks her mind and puts liberals in their place by exposing who they really are. He comment that liberals would rather the poor be poorer to ensure the rich are poorer as well is spot on.

    Go Maggie!

  • God bless Lady Thatcher. I love her. I wish we had someone with the cojones she had as our leader.
