brendel really is the best when it comes to schubert and beethoven. never over-romanticized, wonderful maturity in the interpretations, but somehow gripping all the way through. i like how he makes you notice this is essentially a symphony written for piano. he forces you to notice every transition with pauses, and tempo/dynamic changes. for those who love this interpretation i urge you to check out his beethoven discography as well as schubert's impromptus.

ich finde es schrecklich, dass dieses video noch nichteinmal die 1000er grenze ueberschritten hat. dabei kommt hier die wirkliche groeße schuberts und brendels bei der interpretation raus.

dieses video ist die best interpretierteste aufnahme vom zweiten satz dieser fantasie, die ich jemals gehoert habe.

@4.45-5.15seconds: a passage of sublime poetry. Brendel is one of the few who plays it at just the right speed. A lot of pianists seem to rush somewhat at this point, but Brendel by playing more slowly (as it should be) really brings out its true beauty. i get goosebumps every time i hear this passage:)

And to think he only lives 5min away from where I live in Hampstead, North London! he looks so young in this video. do you when was this recorded?
