Frank Bryant is a professor of literature. And Rita is

his newest student. A hairdresser who thinks

Macbeth runs the local pub. And Hamlet is a plate

of eggs with cheese. He's a failed writer who has

given up on his life. She's determined to change

hers by getting an education. And the more she

loves to learn. The more he learns how to love.

  • Being a student myself I have filled many otherwise empty hours watching pretty much empty, pretentious movies. I haven't seen such great dynamic between two main characters in ages. I SO love this movie!

  • @gingerisevil02 His self loathing is evident in this scene especially because he recognizes that he loves Rita and his love is unreturned. SHe considered him her teacher and he grew to love the student who had come to him hungry and willing to learn. Her interests grew and Frank was outside the scope of her social circle. He resented this and the fact that she wasnt romantically inclined towards him.

  • I don't get it why is frank being so rude to Rita in the end scene?

  • @elocin22791 oh he is definitely in love with her.

  • Best part... Morgan F*** Off..

I laughed so hard at school that day that i got kicked out of class...

  • @cottonwhiskersuk Well it was only disconnected that day. Julia must have had a screw loose to prefer Brian to Frank though, even if he was drunk all the time!

  • Poor Frank. He's so jealous.

  • too bad that they didn't come together... would be great

  • @elocin22791 - Yeah, I get that too. Still, what is left at the end of the film is a real affection/appreciation for each other.

  • One of the best movies I've ever seen. I remember who I as with and all the dialogue. Michael Caine is killer in this role, and for sure, Julie. It was magic!

  • I am also a student myself. I remember my university days discussing literature, smoking cannabis on the lawn and discussing politics. During my free time I would travel to Africa and give the unfortunate people some enjoyment. Those days were wonderful.

I enjoyed participating in University Challenge too.

DING DING - CAMBRIDGE DAVENPORT : FIFTEEN.

    lol bloody fools
