Since returning from Denmark to the West Coast of Canada, we have not touched a fish yet! In an attempt to cure cabin fever, we decided to hunt for some winter bull trout. Unlike interior bull trout, these coastal fish are amphidromous, meaning that they travel between rivers and the ocean in search of food. In the winter months, they are found in rivers, where spawning takes place.

Will this trip results in the first catch of 2010?

  • What would You recommend for February bull trout.

Bobber fishing with some salmon eggs for bait.

or a spinner that goes through the water and makes noises

  • @skatesesh56 small spinners and spoons always work. They're not too picky about that and will follow the lure right to your feet sometimes. Eggs work in February too, but just remember that some streams have a bait ban, so you cannot use natural salmon eggs. A good alternative is to use artificial salmon eggs (rubber eggs, gooey bobs, trout beads).

  • How strong does ur line need to be for these fish?

  • @skatesesh56 8lb test Maxima Ultragreen should be adequate enough.

  • That crocodile spoon you were using at the end has caught me more fish than any other tackle out there. Great on lakes at the river mouths.

  • thanks!

  • nice video! i just caught a bull trout of a silver and red luhr jensen crocodile.

  • What river?

  • The scenery looks amazing

  • @TheVancouverMan This is roughly around two hours from Vancouver.

The spinning outfit is a custom built 4-piece rod with a Rainshadow 4wt fly blank and a Shimano Twinpower 2500 reel.
