Thanks for putting this up.
I have been reading his book "What Evolution Is," and I have gotten through most of it. I have found it to be a very informative book, and I plan on checking out some of the other stuff he wrote. I have also learned a little about him a person, and I see that he was a remarkable and tireless scientist. It is great to see that a person like him was able to live to be 100.

Ernst Mayr was a remarkable scientist. I hope to get his 'Systematics and the origin of Species' for christmas. Thanks for uploading this.

Today, a whole new species of sheeple are being created. They do not think, they believe; they do not make the decisions a life reqires, they follow the leader; they do not cooperate with each other, they follow each other right into the slaughter house; and they will turn like wildebeast onto anyone in their midst at the slightest hint that the other does not believe what they believe; and last but not least, they keep lists of the "ins" and those who are "out" in a strict social pecking order

He was an evolutionist, biology like other sciences has different "levels". He was talking about reproducibility. In other words people say that evolution cannot be proved because cannot be reproduced like an experiment in a lab. Since physics has in people's mind a higher standing that was his quote. I know there are physics theories that cannot be reproduced as well... Read his last book "What makes Biology Unique" for a great exploration on the philosophy of Biology

I read a quote by Mayr, that I do not agree very much. He said that Biology is a completely separate science, from Physics. As a biophysicist, I see that maths, physics, chemistry, are all sciences necessary for undertanding biology. Even Evolution can be simulated in a computer machine! I do not see this separation.

Epigenetic inheritance seems to be a fact.

I am not sure if I agree with him. There are many laws in biology. The laws of segregation also known as Mendelian inheritance is one example.
He is one of the greatest. You are welcome, wrongkeyhole.
