THE BALLAD OF GENESIS AND LADY JAYE
A Film by Marie Losier

Opens on MARCH 8TH, 2012 in NEW YORK

Synopsis:

Genesis P-Orridge has been one of the most innovative and influential figures in music and fine art for the last 30 years. Celebrated by critics and art historians as a progenitor of "industrial music", his innovations have transformed the character of rock and electronic music while his prodigious efforts to expand the boundaries of live performance have radically altered the way people experience sound in a concert setting.

Defying artistic boundaries, Genesis has re-defined his art as a challenge to the limits of biology. In 2000, Genesis began a series of surgeries in order to more closely resemble his love, Lady Jaye (née Jacqueline Breyer), who remained his other half and artistic partner for nearly 15 years. It was the ultimate act of devotion, and Genesis's most risky, ambitious, and subversive performance to date: he became a she in a triumphant act of artistic self-expression.

This is a love story, and a portrait of two lives that illustrate the transformative powers of both love and art. In warm and intimate images captured handheld, Marie Losier crafts a labyrinthine mise-en-scene of interviews, home movies, and performance footage.

except like... the genre they spawned inspired loads of people who went on to make loads of successful music... because of TG we have Coil, Skinny Puppy, KMFDM, Rammstein, Killing Joke, Ministry (Grammy), Marilyn Manson (2 #1 albums) Nine Inch Nails (Grammy, 3 #1 albums) & Trent Reznor (and his Oscar for that soundtrack). Coil's remix of a NIN tune is over the title sequence of "seven"... Also Ian from Joy Division admired Gen hugely. I think you write them off too eagerly

Before TG and Cabaret Voltaire there was no Industrial music. They were considered Industrial even by 1978.

Who do you call "the founders"?

Anyone interested in Genesis P.Orridge's art and music during the 60's/70's/80's should absolutely read The Wreckers of Civilization : The Story of Coum Transmissions & Throbbing Gristle. An amazing book.

the bottom line is they sold thousands of albums have appeared in numerous documentaries and are loved by thousands- ie a cult following- they have made an impact whether you think it or not- when you do something equal on an artistic or musical level let me know-

no it doesnt - i know plenty of great bands that get less views because people are busy watching stupid cat videos and lady gaga videos on youtube- the best things in life are often those that are overlooked- the best albums i own never charted and are rather "unknown" - not because they are not good but because they dont cater to lowbrow sheep and redundancy

Oh yea it's really impressive considering your average funny cat video has half a million views. Well it does prove my point that they have no talent when I cat can pull in more viewers.

bs becuase you know little of a movement means nothing- im not deep into industrial style music personally but they are about the biggest figureheads of the movement- theyve been in a ton of dcs covering the form of music- and every industrial fan i know knows all about them

The word "art" is so loosely thrown around now and days. Someone shits on a canvas and it's called art. First of all I didn't even know it was a guy but now I'm sure that's why HE is considered artistic. Second they are not considered the "founders" of industrial music they are considered ONE of the many bands that influenced THE FOUNDERS of industrial music. Who cares who they were influenced by. The fact remains no one knows these losers as proved by the low views of anything mentioning them.

actually they are noted as the founders of industrial music - theyve done far more then you and i will ever accomplish in art and music - genesis has been in many documentaries from music to sociology and is an artist without doubt- whether or not you like his music is irrelevant- hes undoubtably a creative original
