I really enjoyed this version of Death Letter as i only know the son House classic. This sounds fantastic 5*****

Very nice rendition—great job of capturing that Huddie Ledbetter roaring, rhythmic 12-string; great vocal as well. I am also impressed with the quality of your two-camera shoot; simple, but well recorded. much superior to most YouTube fair. Kudos!

Love this song, but I've never hear Lead Belly sing it. I'll be on the look-out. Really enjoyed this one.

This one's pretty good, but I like the White Stripes' version above all. Especially the Live version. You should watch it.

I know that performance well, and it's great, and it has almost nothing to do with the song I'm singing here. Leadbelly's version (which I base mine on) is so different from Son House's (which Jack White bases HIS version on), it's like comparing apples and oranges. For me, the most amazing version is unquestionably Son House's, but I love all the covers as well.

I keep expecting you to break into "Let the midnight speciaaaallll.. Shine a light on meee"
Interesting interpretation of the song, great playing and vocals but it just isn't the same without the classic Son House riffs.

True, but I'm not even going to try to be Son House---he was sui generis. If you don't know Leadbelly's version, that's pretty much what I'm doing here, except of course I can't shine Leadbelly's SHOES as singer or guitarist either. Then again, who can?
As far as those lyrics go, I DO sing them, on my video of The Midnight Special. Check it out!

I got Leadbelly's version today after watching this last night, I see now where it's coming from. It would make a great Medley to do the 2 together, I might have to steal your chords and try to piece them together.
Still great work though you do it well, good voice and strong guitar playing. I like it.

Thanks. And you're welcome to "steal" away (not "Steal Away")! Them ain't MY chords! I stole 'em from Leadbelly and maybe He stole 'em from Lemon, and whoever Lemon stole 'em from must have stolen'em from someone else, and so on. The joy of folk music. They probably also got changed a little or a lot every time they wuz stolen.
