Linda-Hoang.Com Feature Story: Edmonton couple hoping to resurrect Halloween Alley from the dead

Posted online (at http://linda-hoang.com) on October 30, 2011.

Abstract: Linda Hoang introduces you to an Edmonton couple working to revive a old Halloween tradition in the city's west-end.

Note: Thanks to Helen and Serge Leblanc for taking the time out to chat with me about their passion for Halloween and their efforts to revive Halloween Alley! Thanks also to Kelly Caillaiu with the Edmonton Food Bank for speaking to me as well! (Interview not included in the video, but included in the online article on my website).

Technical Notes: I used my friend's Canon XF100 to shoot and Final Cut Pro 7 to edit. This is my second freelance video since I graduated from NAIT in May 2011. I am still working on getting an appropriate mic for my freelance use so yes, I know the audio is not the best, lol. I am hoping to invest in my own professional video camera eventually. Hopefully that means more videos to be uploaded and I'll be able to continue honing my shooting/editing/writing! :) (And yes, I know the outside night shots are grainy, lol and yes, I could have utilized the tripod more. But in my defence, it's a lame tripod and you could say it's shaky for the Halloween effect, lol).

  • Awesome job Linda & thx for posting... 

  • I liked the piece it told a story and held my interest. Technically I feel other than the short commings you mention in the description I feel some grading of the indoor shots would have helped. I also own this camera and am quite suprised by how much latitude there is for manipulating the shot in post.
