  • anyone know who is the harmonica player???..love the sound of this song..who says the blues is down!!

  • Both James Cotton and Big Mama Thornton are listed as Harmonica players on this album. It could be one or both of them. Perhaps someone else will have a definite answer. And yes, this song rocks.

  • Can anybody tell me if there's a female singer out there today that can compare to Big Momma, Koko Taylor or Etta James.

  • Bettye LaVette has the vocal chops, the attitude, and the experience. Check out her first "comeback" album "A Woman Like Me".

  • She is no longer with us , but check out the amazing Eva Cassidy's rendition of Stormy Monday here on youtube .

Totally different than Big Mama, but Eva is one of the best ever also .

Check out Irma Thomas , Marcia Ball , Joleen Mosser -they are all very good , but Big mama was decidedly in a league of her own - and wow - what an incredible harp player she was too .

  • Indeed, Eva's Stormy Monday is one of my favorites. She left this world too soon.

  • @TxKoyote

Just checked her out on Amazon - very good, but for some reason Big Mama's voice seems more " timeless' , whereas Sister Rosetta's seems dated . Also forgot to add Big Maybelle as another great singer to check out .

  • @doogleandalix lets not forget about Sister Rosetta Thorpe.

  • Wow!!! It's so beautiful to hear music without the aid of auto tune.

  • wow, i just jizzed on myself...

  • I like this song the best of all that I have heard by her so far. Boy, she is really great, and she was a major influence on Elvis Presley. I had never heard of her before I read that she so heavily influenced Elvis nor had I even heard her sing until about a year ago!

  • If B.B.King was the King of blues, She is the queen......

  • @12barsoul Although both play harmonica that undeniably sounds like Cotton on this track.

  • James Cotton is the harmonica players

  • @doogleandalix Good lord thank you for bringing me back to Mama this morning! Ah, she's so amazing. Jonell Mosser, never heard of her, but I'll be looking her up, thanks! :-)

  • @JinnyCarey

    Yes,

I have some of her stuff - she's very good too . Above I meant to say Jonell Mosser -sorry for the typo.
