Shows the progress of a fake scan in IE8 with privacy enabled.
Full description is here:

http://strangelyperfect.tv/6622/too-many-bad-pings-so-withdraw-referrals-info/

The malware cracked site sets IE8 privacy to normal with a new instance, which can be closed.
Then there are a sequence of dialog boxes that can't be closed without downloading a piece of malware.
In this case, the IE8 window could be closed normally, but on previous occasions in my testing, only Task Manager could close IE8 (or Firefox if I was using that for the test).

  • It's NOT a real virus. The file system and folder names are probably not even the same as your own system's... BUT! If you download the file, do not install it!! I've found that most AV progs don't detect it yet and will allow it to install on your compy.

After this, it appears as a legitimate security program, will lots of warnings to scare you into doing something.

Visit my website and you'll see that Malwarebytes will get rid of it pretty well.

  • The current name is scareware. It's becoming more and more common. It's malware that will pretend to be an antivirus program and tell you that you have dozens of viruses and need to buy the Pro version to protect yourself.

It will also act to prevent you from uninstalling it.
