Obviously, this all varies store to store/company to company (especially when you compare indie bookstores to the chain stores-- those decisions aren't made at the corporate level for indies because, well, there IS no corporate level). But you get the idea.

  • So it's better if I order Sweetly as close to the release date as possible?

Does it make a difference if I buy it on amazon? because I live in Germany and I kinda don't have any other options. Except... maybe ...

do bookstores order books from other countries, too? Because if they do, and if it's better for you/the book if I bought it there, I will :)

  • @xXKaylieAnnXx Books are only sold in another country if they're imported, or if the other country has purchased publishing rights to the book. For example, a German publisher (PAN) bought rights to AS YOU WISH, SISTERS RED, and SWEETLY-- they'll be published in German about a year after their US releases (German AS YOU WISH came out last year, for example).

Otherwise, if you want the English version, ordering Amazon or another online retailer is awesome :)

  • @JacksonAPearce

Yeah, I've bought the German version of "As you wish", but I never saw a german version of "Sisters Red", so I bougt it in amazon :)

  • @xXKaylieAnnXx It'll be out later this year!

  • So is it better to publish through an on demand publisher like Createspace? I by a lot off Amazon exactly because stores don't carry books like you said.

  • @semitonedown I am NOT a fan of self publishing, except in very rare circumstances. Traditional publishers have the time and resources to market your book in a way few self published authors can.

  • Haha I bet that for the last Potter, they didn't even bother with reps and such. They must have just stocked them, no questions asked!

  • I actually like the sky blue cover better.

  • Spazzpiggy Tell me about it!!!!

  • Jackson I loved As you wish but I really don't like either cover. If I hadn't heard the book was good I would never had bought it. Sisters Red's cover btw is really cool!

  • Yay thanks for the knowledge I'll be sure to enjoy it XD

ik its so sad what happened to borders but thank God the one that i go to isn't closing

  • @JacksonAPearce

    Oh, I see :)

Well, I'll look forward to it. Will be the first book that I own an original and a german copy of :)

    ("original copy? Oxymoron?)

  • i gotta say, I like the final cover of As You Wish better than the arc cover.

This was a really interesting video. I had wondered about this, especially because the Borders near my house (which is closing now) never carries the new books I want, so I stopped going there. In comparison, the Borders near where I used to live (I don't know if it's closing) always had the books I wanted. Now I have a better understanding of why.
