  • This just doesn't compare to the Tom Russell version...

  • @mattheweverhart I just found it. I've been looking also, but was looking for Ramblin' Jack Elliot's version. I didn't know who the other singer was...Tom Russell.

Key in the name Sky Above Mud Below. The person posting it just has it listed under "real c and w". Nothing else. just "real c and w". It is their song! No video, but sure great listening.

  • I enjoy this song. Thanks for posting. Have you seen the Ramblin' Jack Elliot version anywhere? I like his version also. Thanks.

  • ..."The Sky above and Mud Below"...

  • I'd love it if someone had a Tom Russell version up here. :(

  • One of the greatest country stories ever...and Wylie does it justice. Ramblin' Jack Elliott & Tom Russell teamed up on the best version.

"Horse hair braidin' sons of bitches

Stole my rights to earthly riches.."

  • great story - favourite bit is:

'he was sherriff, judge - he owned a hearse:

a man you did not anger'

4 stars, would have got 5 if it was tom russell's version tho

  • this song is amazing
