In the 16th episode of Pensado's Place starts off with an in-depth look into the world of high-end mic pre's with BAE Audio's own Mark Loughman. They discuss the history of the venerable 1073 mic pre, and how Mark has managed to not only recreate, but improve upon this industry classic. Our guest is 3-time GRAMMY award winning mixer Phil Tan (Rihanna, Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, Enrique Iglesias, Fergie, Usher, Mariah Carey). He joins Dave and the gang via Skype to talk about his career, techniques, and favorite gear. Later in the show, the pioneer of In The Box mixing Charles Dye joins Dave and Phil via Skype in ""The Batters Box"" to answer rapid fire gear questions, which results in Charles sharing some incredible mixing secrets! You don't want to miss this one!

  • Great video, once again! Thanks Dave for doing this!!

  • Another thank you to everyone here. As a sponge for knowlege I am so grateful!

    Doug.

  • I never thought of approaching the low end like Charles suggests. I'm going to re-visit some of my old mixes that had low end problems and apply this technique. Interestingly enough most of those mixes did have Acoustic Guitar and Piano on them. I am loving this show. Thank you Dave for all that you and your crew have done here.

  • Another Hit! Awkward moment with the "Taekwondo Phil" bit, but Mr. Tan was great! I loved Charles' technique for clearing out space for the low end (I get carried away with that sometimes). And your hair looked "Amazing" Dave!

  • I love at 0:42:49, Dave holds up 4 fingers and says "5 number one singles" Lol

  • @Jannto Cool, I can do that. I'll give it a shot thanks for the suggestion.

  • @Anotherblackseason Ah, a good way to fix it is sidechaining them subtly to the things they mask and stuff.

  • @Jannto Yep, I'm doing that on my new track. I use a lot of synths in my music and they really eat up space.

  • @Anotherblackseason That's a little on the high side.

You should definitely listen to what they need, not a default value!
