  • No offense, but I always wondered what the connection between Mormons and the Haka is.

  • @AbramBergstrom There is no connections between Mormons and the Haka per se. A few years ago BYU football player Bryce Mahuika was looking for a way to honor his recently deceased grandfather, who was a Maori chief. He decided to teach the Haka to his teammates and they performed it before each football game.

  • @AbramBergstrom Other Polynesian players on the team decided to continue the tradition for the next few years as a way to honor their culture and heritage. They haven't performed in regularly since the 2008 season.

  • It is very sad and disturbing that the mormons have taken a New Zealand Rugby tradition dating back to 1888 and claim it as their own. Very sad and disrespectful

  • I'm pretty sure this is a NZ tradition, not a Rugby tradition. And no one at BYU has ever taken credit for inventing this.

  • lets see... 1. not from NZ 2. gay actions ( rugby haka moves own this) 3. most of them r out of time and dont know the words. and finaly NFL sucks coz ther'yeall onses that wear padding ...try playin RAW like rugby ( a mans game!) btw.. dont give me that BS about NFl gives head tackles and rugby dont. in rugby people do anything if ref's not looking. hopefully someone will back me up.

  • I would just like to point out that this is a poor quality video, and the words you hear are being yelled by the kids that were sitting next to me. They aren't out of rythm, the video quality is bad.

And for everyone, if you would like to discuss the superiority or inferiority of rugby to football, please do it in english so that we know that you have a valid argument. "Coz" is not a word.

  • shut up sprat. it doesn't matter where it comes from.

  • @tnt303 This is nothing to be proud of. We Native Americans had our land taken and now the Hawaiians are in the same boat with us. Land is not to be 'owned'. Hawaii should belong to the Hawaiians! We indiginous people were left here to look after our Mother Earth, to take care of her. As far as the Haka goes, it is sacred to Maori and care should be used when performing it. Personally, I don't think a football field is the place for that.

  • @hawaiian96chence Haha dude just calm down about the whole "haka" thing. Its not like were saying, "Oh look what inferior Pacific Islander culture looks like." Were not mocking you

  • @tnt303 Haha ya thats's what i thought. ROFL wow really?? That whole "moons ago" is a native american thing soo awful try.

  • @hawaiian96chence It was spoken by your great ancestors, many moons ago.

  • @tnt303 Exactly you really don't know anything soo if i were you i wouldn't type about somewhere i know nothing about. ROFL homie where did i say those exact words please show me (:

  • @hawaiian96chence All I know about Hawaii is its expensive. Think of it this way, who's more ignorant: the ones who "steal the dance but arent Pacific Islander" or the ones who judge them for doing it without knowing the sentiment behind it?

  • @tnt303 Haha mininiboto you know nothing of Hawaii.....and ok is there supposed to be a point here?

  • @hawaiian96chence Haha I wouldnt be talking because the continental US pretty much owns Hawaii.

  • To dumb mainland people (continental US) you guys really should stop doing haka and your horrible imitations of it. It's a digrace and disrespectful to Maori. If there is maori on the team it still doesn't make this right because they're doing the All Blacks Haka without permission or a chiefs blessing. You haoles always gotta steal others people land and now culture haha where does it end.
