Two helicopters, one, a Japanese Kawasaki, equipped with water lifting devices, assist the New South Wales Rural Fire service in fighting a fire which broke out in the State Mine Gully, Lithgow, on Saturday November 28th 2009. Battling a fierce wind, the choppers brough the fire under control reasonably quickly. Water was lifted from the resevoir near the sewage works and Lake Pillan, near the old Blast Furnace on Inch Street.

  • This is truly amazing! Imagine the sheer bathos of it all! Bushfires are a necessary evil in Australia they clear out the dead underbrush and keep unwanted species in check .So dont bemoan them too much!

  • Those buckets look tiny, the skill of the pilots is amazing and priceless. Cheers to the pilots! If it wasn't for them who know's how bad it would have been!
