  • H5N1 was recently declared by scientists in Holland(the Netherlands). It was developed purposely and they were prevaricating on whether to relaease their 'recipe' as H5N1 is highly contagious and has the potential to kill half of humanity! If it's in China, or anywhere, it is biological warfare!! We have to wonder HOW did it get out of the Dutch lab???

  • And just a quick correction. You said there are "500 some-odd" proteins in the virus. Actually there are only about 7 different protein types in Influenza, and the mutation you were talking about alters one amino acid of one of those proteins.

  • The second article you provided is a genuine concern, though it's nothing to panic about. I really don't think it's that likely that H1N1 will recombine with H5N1 simply because H5N1 is relatively rare among pigs, which is where viruses have a habit of recombining with other viruses (pigs are sometimes called 'flu melting pots'). Also, H1N1 is not longer infectious among pigs, even though that is where it emerged. Enough mutations have accumulated to make it entirely a human virus.

  • If you want info on viruses, ask a virologist not a journalist. Influenza viruses mutate extremely frequently. In a single individual there can be thousands of "mutants". This article you've provided is totally incoherent. It's talking about mutant influenza viruses as though they are these rare, sinister things that we should be afraid of. They have no clue what they are talking about. Influenza mutates. When a virion replicates in a cell, it is guaranteed to accumulate a few mutations.

  • not my lungs, goob, hehe, i clean w/it i like pinesol too

  • I don't suggest breathing clorox to keep this virus out of your respiratory system however I hear a gas mask might work to keep it out of your eyes etc....

  • Forget about vaccines. They're all worthless. (Google type 2 polio in Nigeria if you don't believe me.) But when they tell you they're worried about reassortment, that's their way of saying they expect it to happen. In other words, some obscure lab related to Baxter International (or one of the other pharmaceutical companies) will probably release a reassortment into the environment. Don't forget the H1N1 was already reassorted from 4 viruses, which by most accounts could not happen naturally.

  • gee i feel like cleaning with clorox again..

  • The flus are being crushed and they will not turn into a big killer. They will disappear in 2010 and will not be a big deal.

  • thanks for info for awhile they said that the mutation was not spread from person to person...anyone who what happen in ukraine knows it is.
