http://ThePlasticSurgeryChannel.com Plastic Surgery Channel expert Dr. Lee Thornton from Meridian, Mississippi talks about the details of a facelift procedures, what it entails and what should potential patients know about the procedure.

Facelift is a procedure that has been around for many years. It is today considered a common procedure, the aim of which is to provide a more youthful look and feel to the patient. It is generally designed to restore aging in the face that has occurred primarily in the face, neck, jawline and surrounding areas. Most facelifts involve tightening of the skin over the face, with or without removal of excess fat tissues and re-draping of the skin for a better looking aesthetic. Today the science of choosing what type of facelift to undergo is becoming more and more complicated as there are more types of facelifts coming out and there is a lot of marketing hype surrounding these newer types of facelifts.

A patient must be careful about these procedures and cutting through the entire marketing buzz as often a surgeon recommends a new age procedure when actually what the patient truly needs is traditional methods of plastic surgery. The procedure basically makes incisions along the hairline and behind the hairline as well as behind the ears and around the ears. Following this, the surgeon would go in and address the deeper structures that hold the muscles of the face together and re-suspend those. When a plastic surgeon mentions a facelift, he usually is referring to improvements in the neck area, the cheek area and the jowl area and not really in the eye region. Surgery around the eye region is a completely different procedure however, a facelift, brow lift and eyelift/eyelid surgery may be effectively combined for best results.

  • I would love for DR Thorton to do a video consultation of me for you channel. My mini facelift went wrong and now I have white scars inch wide in front of both my ears. The scars are very flat, but is hypopigmention where is stretched apart. I don't want this to happen to anyone else.
