Does antivirus protect you?

I frequently hear "I have antivirus so I'm protected," as if that's the be all, end all, and nothing will get by it.

Well, this video shows just how poorly antivirus software can perform in the field. A virus infects a machine, and when I'm cleaning it up, a month and a half later, it's only detected by 12% of antivirus scanners.

Next time you hear somebody claim their antivirus will protect them, point them to this video.

Yes, I understand your point and I have taken this into consideration myself. But I should tell you that different programs use different algorithms for detection. So, if something specifically is detected by one software, it may not necessarily be specifically detected by another. The important thing to look for, is that the overall status remains the same for all software. Also, a reputable tool or confirmed claim must be made in order to come to a conclusion.
