Steel mill was shuttered in 2001 then reopened in 2003.
Downtown has suffered a lot.
the Mall is still there, however teetering on the edge of losing stores, Bergners and JCP are still there.

Bryan, Angelo's is still in Rock Falls and there is a new one in Sterling . There is still a downtown area but has changed quite a bit.

i live in sterling and i remember this there was another one that went in to the rock river, i remember going on our boat and seeing 8 train cars in the river

My name is Bryan Nettz, I've been gone from sterling 30 yrs and never looked back...until lately. Sure would be nice if someone posted some video of what the town is like now. Is there still a downtown area? Is the mall still around? What's Lincoln park like? I miss Angelo's Pizza. I remember they had the best sausage sandwiches.A shout out to Gary Hendrix, Russel Martinez,John Ward, and all my old classmates.
