Dave Chapelle- Portland Pioneer Square Free Midnight Show

7/15/09 Dave Chapelle was visiting and told some people he would make a suprise midnight appearance in Pioneer Square in Portland, OR. Word spread by internet social networking and a crowd estimated at 5-10,000 showed up. Dave himself showed up at 1 AM with only a handheld, battery powered 5W amp (Vox DA5). Eventually, the crowd delivered a more formidable amp set up (the screaming at 1:40) but then had to string extension cords over the crowd looking for live outlets. Sound was horrible and noone could really hear, but a fun, unique event anyway. Props to Dave and the people of Portland for showing up and the Portland Police for rolling with it. They shut down car traffic and didn't harass anybody.

Ask and ye shall receive. Heres the transcript for those audio impaired. This was taken from the back side of stage at one of the rare moments he addressed that side. Only 15 feet away but couldnt really hear a word when he turned the other direction.

I don't want to ask the police for a megaphone. In fact, I am trying to keep their involvement to a minimum. But they did, but they did ask me, they did ask me legitimately to do everything I could do YEAH F**K THE POLICE to make sure people got through this safely. I'M TOO DRUNK TO BE SAFE

So unless we can get the uh sound system, and I don't know if we can get within the next twenty minutes, this time i'll have to slide out of here and I'm gonna have to take a rain check AWW NO NO!

But wait a minute, wait a minute, the night was not a complete loss. HELL NO IT WASN'T We came together. We all saw a naked lady on top of Starbucks.

So its not a complete loss. Its akin to seeing a bigfoot. It doesn't happen very often (mumbles sumthin about Portland, Oregon..)

Bunch of loud mouth rimjobs. I had to rip the earphones outta my head everytime someone yelled. Way to ruin the show for everybody guys. Why did you guys bother wearing clothes if you are already cloaked in douchebaggery? Could've been a grate video.
