the fight before this is nerve wrecking because there are times when he drops everyone's hp down to 0 well that was a time when i was still really new to rpg's too

Cloud doesn't have any materia equipped for this fight.
The game automatically de-equips him of his entire materia set-ups.
This is the only fight where the counter ability is an innate skill.

That guy can only execute the lower grade "Octa" slash technique.
I have much love for Cloud.... Much love for Sephiroth....
However, the different levels of ability between Sephiroth's Octaslash and Cloud's Omnislash proved that Cloud's raging passion superceeded Sephiroth's superior swordsmanship.
