'Settlement' by Anthony Haughey, showing in The Copper House Gallery, was officially opened by writer, journalist and political commentator Fintan O'Toole on 26th October. 'Settlement', a multi-disciplinary exhibition curated by Leszek Wolnik, and sponsored by Fire, runs in The Copper House Gallery until Friday the 25th of November 2011.
'Settlement' charts the fallout from the collapse of Ireland's 'property bubble', a result of the inflated Celtic Tiger economy. Anthony Haughey, an artist and lecturer/researcher in the School of Media at the Dublin Institute of Technology, has interpreted the financial, ecological and social consequences of this economic collapse through his Settlement installation. His installation incorporates collaboration from DIT Department of Architecture and Urban Design, NAMAlab, UCD School of Architecture and Mahoney Architects. Over 72 people were involved in the making of this exhibition and a unique website was created to document the evolution of this project.
'Settlement' includes an interactive feature whereby participants can visit abandoned building sites such as the abandoned Anglo Irish Bank headquarters and other Nama sites to engage with alternative proposals for each site via QR code readers accessible on smart phones. All of the proposal sites have been mapped to google maps and QR code plaques have been posted to hoardings on the featured Nama sites.
