What tuning is this performed in?
-
Great performance. This really stays true to the sound of the African akonting instrument that is the first ancestor of the American banjo.
-
You can have the Grand Canyon, but the banjo sounds really good!
-
I like how you dance around!

John apparently stopped building the 1865's, but is bringing them back. It will take a while to get one, as he hand builds them one at a time.

Hope to see y'all in Murfreesboro!!

What a neat sounding instrument, and as always you play it wonderfully. One question, how is it brand new if it was made in 1865?

banjoists are weird! and being a banjoist myself, i should know!

Hello,
The name of this banjo model is the John Bowlin 1865 fretless. It is a reproduction of a style of banjo made in 1865. John does a beautiful job on these. :)

Hello CerylTrini,
Please visit my website and listen to samples of banjo on my five Cds for better examples of my playing. We taped this because we wanted to get the Grand Canyon in the background--please notice that I am on an unguarded ledge that drops thousands of feet and I was much more concerned about not falling than I was about playing the banjo. :)
