  • @johnnyjet33030 Actually, Plectrum and tenor banjos appeared in the early 20th century, particularly to accompany Dixieland bands. The 5-string banjo dates from at least the 1820's-1820's, the oldest style being minstrel banjo, followed by frailing (clawhammer) around the 1840's-1850's, and then classical banjo (three-finger picking) around the 1860's.
