Bill Evans' 1961 Riverside recording "Sunday At The Village Vanguard," featured in the 19th chapter of "Orrin Keepnews, Producer." This episode features the famed Jazz producer's memories of Bill Evans' 1961 Riverside Records recording.

One of the most respected of all jazz producers, Orrin Keepnews's long and productive career has included working with such artists as Sonny Rollins, Bill Evans, Wes Montgomery, Cannonball Adderley and Thelonious Monk, as well as founding influential jazz labels Riverside and Milestone.

The Keepnews Collection, from The Concord Music Group is a reissue series of albums produced by this jazz legend. It features time-honored titles recorded by the true titans of jazz, originally released on Riverside and Milestone Records. All reissues, with 24-bit remastering from the master tapes, include original liner notes and Keepnews' voluminous new commentaries; when available, the original tracks are supplemented by bonus cuts from the sessions.

It truly is about the music. I just bought Lafaro's biography written by his younger sister and it is a great read along with Evans bio. These guys broke new ground. I don't know why people have to argue about something that is intrinsically beautiful. This is a living history that continues to evolve to this day in the hearts of artists everywhere.

@ManagerGuy1 The whole point of the video is to listen to the guy talk about these old sessions. Sure it promotes a reissue series but nobody cheated you into listening to him by promising free music.

If you want to listen to Bill Evans, get the album - new or old release and stop watching videos.

The rest of us heard this album many times and are interested in higher quality or previously unreleased material including all kinds of insights from people who where involved.

Thank you for posting this! I have been a fan of Bill Evans since I first heard

Gloria's Step the age of 16. There is something magical about the music on

Sunday at the Village Vanguard. This is my most prized possession!

@snaaptaker he refers to this album because this is the album in question. YES, all three are wonderful...but this interview is a nice backdrop to the essential 'Sunday at the Village Vanguard' and the tragic loss of LaFaro. I think this is great, coming from the man who said, 'yes, let's record these dates' and the thinking that went into the process. Historically, there's nothing like a primary source.

thanks for uploading, I've been listening to this album so much lately and it's so far before my time that I wanted to know more about this band. Sad to lose such a brilliant bassist in his youth. Learned a lot!

u sell too hard. let the audience hear more of the artist - not you "selling".. you will get the sales based on the artist talent, bill evan etc. you do not sell mr jazz producer - i got so sick of looking at and listening to you that i dumped off this site - and i love bill evans.
